Funding Options Review

A funding strategy grounded in project needs.

A focused comparison of climate funds and financing partners, based on the project’s purpose, country, sponsor, scale and repayment capacity. The output is a shortlist with reasons, conditions and next steps.

Funding Options Review

A funding strategy grounded in project needs.

When this service is useful

The project has a defined purpose but no confirmed financing strategy, or an initial funding target needs testing. The review is useful before a team invests in a fund-specific proposal or assumes that a grant is the only option.

How options are assessed

  • Separate the funding source from the instrument: identify who could provide support and whether a grant, loan, equity investment or guarantee fits the need.
  • Review country and applicant conditions, thematic priorities, project scale and potential implementation partners.
  • Examine expected revenue, public benefits, co-financing assumptions, preparation needs and timing.
  • Identify exclusions and unanswered questions that require confirmation from the responsible institution.

What the client receives

A ranked shortlist with a preferred option, conditional alternatives and a fallback where credible options exist. Each option records its rationale, access arrangements, financing role, principal constraints and next action. An unsuitable option is excluded with an explanation.

Information needed to begin

A project summary, location, sponsor and legal status, indicative costs, expected revenue or budget support, available partners and intended schedule.

What the service does not imply

Identifying a potential fund or partner does not establish eligibility, interest or access. The review supports engagement with the relevant institutions; it does not sell introductions or commit a third party to finance the project.

Indicative duration
5 to 8 working days
Limit
Identifies possible partners without implying access or endorsement.

Preparation

A shortlist you can act on

For each shortlisted route, the review should answer three questions: who would lead the application, what expenditure the finance could cover and what must happen next. Where no credible route is evident, the useful conclusion may be to reshape the project or strengthen its institutional basis before drafting.
